WHAT WE BELIEVE

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We are a PROTESTANT church, which means that we embrace the five watchwords

of the Protestant Reformation, namely,

Scripture alone
Grace alone
Faith alone
Christ alone
To God alone be the glory

We are a REFORMED church, which means that we believe what is known as federal

(or covenant) theology, including the five points of Calvinism, namely,

Total Depravity
Unconditional Election
Limited Atonement
Irresistible Grace
Perseverance of the Saints

We are an EVANGELICAL church, which means that we seek to promote the gospel

(the good news) of Jesus Christ, emphasizing

that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the inspired, inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice;
that the greatest need (and only hope) of everyone coming forth from the womb is to be converted, which is to turn from sin to the only Saviour God has provided (see John 3:35,36).

In order to lay out before you what we believe more fully, i.e. with greater detail, we subscribe to the following:

the three ecumenical confessions of the ancient church, namely, The APOSTLES’ CREED; The NICENE CREED; and The ATHANASIAN CREED;
the Three Forms of Unity, namely, The BELGIC CONFESSION; The HEIDELBERG CATECHISM; and The CANONS OF DORT;
and we subscribe as well, in principle, to the Westminster Standards, namely,The WESTMINSTER CONFESSION OF FAITH; The LARGER CATECHISM; and The SHORTER CATECHISM.

We realize that it is easy for us to say all this, of course, and yet, what we actually promote may be very different. We invite you, then, to attend our services of worship. We encourage you also to read the Articles Page of this website. In these ways you can, with the Bereans of old, test everything you find (see what we really believe for yourself) by comparing it to Holy Scripture.
